SDA promotes education in the local community by conducting several events and generous donations to local schools. SDA has been successfully running a girl’s school for the past 18 years. We also organize events to motivate students to excel in education by awarding them with a generous donation and we make sure that it goes for the right cause. In addition to providing academic knowledge to the community students, SDA arranges special seminars to educate local artisans about diamond technicality and diamond grading in association with The International Gemological Institute (IGI) and Gemological Institute of America (GIA).
Surat Diamond Association organized a cricket tournament from April 13th to April 22nd,2012 at Hare Krishna Campus, Sarthana. A total of 16 teams from different companies from the local diamond industry participated in the tournament. Out of the two finalists, Jodhani Brothers and Minaxi Diamonds, the Jodhani Brothers won the tournament. During the valedictory function, a fashion show was organized where young kids walked the runway. The funds collected during the event were to the kids suffering from HIV.
SDA conducted a safety awareness program on July 21st, 2011 in association with Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) for improving the safety of the local people. This program was graced by the presence of the police commissioner of Surat, Mr. Rakesh Asthana and the Mayor of the city, Mr. Rajendrabhai Desai. Mrs. Reshmaben Rangrej from Ahmedabad was honored for her act of bravery for reporting a complaint against her husband who was associated with the planning of a bombing incident in Ahmedabad. Green Initiatives: The Tapti Shudhhikaran Abhiyan Initiative(Tapti Cleanliness Campaign) was undertaken to promote and maintain the cleanliness of the river Tapti. Anti-addiction campaigns: SDA organized proactive “Quit smoking/tobacco” campaigns led by motivational speakers to encourage a tobacco-free society. Initiative to eliminate malnutrition in children: “SDA Kuposhan Naboodi Yojna” (Eliminate Malnutrition Program) campaign aims to eradicate malnutrition in children. SDA’s most recent and one of the biggest initiatives so far for the common people was to build a hospital and research center over a land of 7000 sq. ft. The aim of the Diamond Hospital is to provide medical treatment with minimal fees or free of cost if required. Hospital has a capacity of 100 beds with private rooms. It is constructed with state-of-the-art technology along with the latest equipment and it focuses on a wide range of areas of health care from pediatrics, gynecology, ICU facilities, general and special wards, dialysis, X-ray machines, sonography, pathology lab, radiology, physiotherapy and many more.We also organize events to motivate students to excel in education by awarding them with a generous donation and we make sure that it goes for the right cause. Surat Diamond Association regularly organizes end number of free Medical Camps for regular health checkups, skin diseases, blood tests, kidney related ailments and many more.SDA spreads awareness and information on precautions for HIV infection thru print media, road shows, videos and free checkups. Over 1500 people received free medical treatment through the medical camps. Free Medical Camp with District Industries Center (DIC), Surat: With the support of District Industries Centre, Surat, SDA organizes free of cost medical camp for the artisans and their families. Ear, Eyes, Throat and Teeth Treatment Camp helped over 830 artisans and their family members.Patients who needed specialized treatments were sent to the senior doctors for further examination.
